RSS routs rural rivals

The Rossland Senior Girls soccer team traveled to Osoyoos over the weekend to compete in the Public School Single A Rural Championship.

The Rossland Senior Girls soccer team traveled to Osoyoos over the weekend to compete in the Public School Single A Rural Championship.

The Royals dominated their opponents throughout the tournament, defeating Merritt 10-1, Fraser Lake 8-1, and Pemberton 8-0, before shipping Pender Harbour home with a 5-1 victory to win it all.

Rossland’s Kayla Zimmer was selected tournament MVP, while Jaala Derochie and Kaycee McKinnon were named to the tournament all-star team.

The Royals’ scoring phenom, Kaycee McKinnon, won the Golden Boot for most goals in the tournament.

RSS will be hosting the Single A Provincial Soccer Tournament May 30 to June 1, with 16 teams from around the province playing for the B.C. championship on fields in Rossland and Trail.

The tournament will mark the final high school provincial championship to be played at RSS.
