The Major Midget Kootenay Ice dropped a pair of games in Castlegar to the Vancouver Canadians on the weekend.

The Ice fell 6-3 on Saturday and 6-1 on Sunday to remain mired in last place in the league.

Justin Post got the only Ice marker half way through the first period, before the Canadians took over.

In the previous match, Jake Lucchini scored twice and added an assist for the Ice in a game they led 3-2 going into the third period. However, the Canadians replied with four unanswered goals in the third period, to take the victory. The Vancouver side employed an even attack, distributing all six goals among six different scorers.

Darren Medeiros and Quinn Klimchuk also added two points each for the Ice.

Selkirk College Saints

It was a tale of two Saints, as Selkirk College got bombarded by the Thompson River University Wolfpack before losing by one on Saturday.

The Saints suffered a 12-2 shelling at the hands of the Pack in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey Friday but came out looking like a different team in the second match, dropping a 6-5 decision.

The WolfPack jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second period, but the Saints replied on consecutive goals from Garrett Kucher and Justin Sotkowy and Andrew Green scored his second of the night late in the second to tie it at five.

But the WolfPack picked up their game in the end, scoring the game winner at 9:40 of the third period to secure four points for TRU.

“We jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first half of the game but took our foot of the accelerator for a bit and it was tied 5-5 by the end of the second,” WolfPack head coach Don Schulz explained. “But in the third we outshot them 10-4 and had many chances to add to our total while minimizing theirs.”
