The Trail Smoke Eaters announced the hiring of Kim Penner as the team’s new trainer and athletic therapist earlier this week.

Kim joins the Smoke Eaters after five years experience in the BC Major Midget League, most recently as trainer for the Valley West Hawks. She possesses a Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree from the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford.

• The BCHL also finalized the schedule for September’s Bauer BCHL Showcase, being hosted for the second consecutive year at Chilliwack’s Prospera Centre.

Each club will play two games at the event that count towards the regular season standings.

Last year at the inaugural Showcase, there were close to 200 scouts from the college and professional ranks taking in the action.

The 2013 opening season event runs from Sept. 6-8, with the Smoke Eaters playing against Langley Rivermen at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6, and again on Sept. 8 versus the Cowichan Valley Capitals at 5:30 p.m.
