The Trail Commercial Hockey League standings continued to get tighter after the last week of action.
While the league-leading Rex Hotel team was handed a double-dose of defeat, its pursuers managed to close the gap as the regular season heads into its home stretch.
Re/Max All Pro Realty was the main benefactor of Rex’s struggles as a pair of wins moved the second-place team within two points of top spot in the TCHL.
The move began last Thursday when Re/Max handed Rex Hotel a 4-1 defeat.
Graham Proulx and Jim Lennox scored first period goals to propel Re/Max to the win.
The evening’s other game saw OK Tire get two goals and four points from Darrin Kissock as they defeated Firebird 6-4. Shane Drake added three points in the OK victory while Mike Wert had a four-point game in a losing effort for Firebird.
Re/Max kept up its winning ways on Sunday with Proulx netting a hat trick and Luke Russell potting a pair as Re/Max edged OK Tire 5-3. Derek Charters had a goal and assist for OK Tire.
Firebird added to Rex Hotel’s woes with a 6-5 victory. Matt Langille’s third-period goal stood as the winner for Firebird. Travis Drake added a pair of markers.
Scott Davis’s three goals and two from Wayne Salekin weren’t enough to lift Rex to a much-needed victory.
Rex Hotel gets a night off tonight as TCHL action resumes at the Cominco Arena.
OK Tire takes on Arlington at 7:15 p.m. and Re/Max meets Firebird at 8:30 p.m.
