Zone 1 Junior golf: Fullerton’s final hole finish nabs him first

The Zone 1 West Kootenay Junior Golf Tour made a stop in Nakusp this weekend.

The Zone 1 West Kootenay Junior Golf Tour made a stop in Nakusp this weekend with Ryan Fullerton from Rossland-Trail Country Club picking up his first tour victory.

A small field teed off on the fourth stop on the Kootenay tour but it certainly did not take away from the drama of the finish.

Fullerton played solid golf all day and sealed the victory on the final hole of the day. He stuck his approach shot on 18 to five feet and then drained the birdie putt for a 74 on the day.

Taking first in the 17 and 18 division was Brenan Moroney from Rossland, while in the 15 and 16 year old division Brett Mengler from Nakusp took first and Amber Arnold from Castlegar finished second.

The 14 and under division went to a playoff with Braden McKay (RTCC) beating Carson Arcuri from Granite Point on the second playoff hole.  On the first playoff hole Carson made a fantastic par save from the bunker, but on the second hole of the playoff his approach ran through the green and he was not able to get up and down.

In the Net division, the McInnes brothers from Nakusp took honours. Nathyn McInnes took the 15 – 18 year old division with a net 67 and Dugan the 14 and under with a net 63.

In the skill prizes Brenan Moroney and Braden McKay dominated.  Both kids won the KP and long drive in their age divisions.
