The Trail Community Action Team (TCAT) is partnering with Selkirk College, the city and BC Housing to bring guest speaker Guy Felicella to Trail on April 29 to launch the 2024 West Kootenay Homelessness Response Summit.

“Guy is a harm-reduction advocate who battled addiction and homelessness before breaking free from the cycle,” explains TCAT. “In keeping with the summit theme, Inspiring Change: Building Community Solutions Together, the partners invite all members of our broader community to join us for a meal and community conversation on Monday evening and a full day of programming on Tuesday.

The Monday April 29 event will start at 5 p.m. in the Colombo Lodge.

There is no cost to attend, but seats are limited so registration is a must.

Registration closes April 22.

Learn more and register at the Selkirk College website: selkirk.ca.

Tammy McLean, co-chair of TCAT, notes, “Guy has lived through the worst imaginable conditions to build a positive, productive life working to support others going through the physical and mental anguish of drug dependency,” notes Tammy McLean, co-chair, TCAT.

“His passionate delivery is sure to touch and enlighten all who are lucky enough to hear his message.”

TCAT is also partnering with JL Crowe Secondary School, where Felicella will address a full-student assembly.

“Homelessness is complex issue,” says Jayme Jones, Selkirk College researcher and project director for the project Bridging Rural Homelessness and Well-being: A Sustainable and Collaborative Regional Response.

“To find solutions, we need to work together at a regional level. The summit brings together diverse perspectives, including people with lived or living experience of homelessness, so we can collaborate and find solutions that work for us in our rural region.”
