Josie passed away peacefully on January 15th. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland on February 18, 1929. She was preceded by her husband Dick in 2014, parents Matt and Meg and her youngest brother Jack Hopkins.

Josie married her longtime sweetheart, Dick in 1951. Their daughter, Josie, was born a year later. Our Dad was an adventurer and by 1956 we were in South Africa and he was working for Anglo American Mines. Their 2 sons, Richard and Jack were born in South Africa. In 1961 our family moved to Zambia (Northern Rhodesia) where Dick continued in his mining career. In 1966 we returned to Glasgow for 5 months while Dad decided where our next adventure would be. In June 1966 we arrived in Trail. Shortly after that the McCarthy and Hopkins families arrived. Our Mum and Dad loved Trail and all the friends they made there. They had finally found their forever place. Mum enjoyed her time curling, camping and travelling. She loved having parties with the “Scottish Clan” and singing their songs from the old country. She also looked forward to the weekends they spent at Evans Campground with their friends and families.

Mum leaves behind her youngest son Jack (Ella) grandchildren, Amber and Brittany (Jorden Neill), great-grandchildren Logan and Journey; her son, Richard (Susan) granddaughter Jodi (Alasdair Montgomery); her daughter Josie (Denis Harrigan) granddaughter Lisa (Ken Jones) great-grandchildren Ruby and Jaxen, grand-daughter Lindy Harrigan(Justin Young), grand-daughter Trisha (Al Moss) great-grandchildren Jaiden and Tristan. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sister and best friend Margaret McCarthy (Bob), her brother Matt Hopkins (Jean) and sister in law Josie Hopkins.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood Village and Dr. Campbell for their excellent care. A service will be held in the spring. An announcement will be made in the Trail Times.
