The Trail Retirees Curling Club playoffs took place last week and saw the winners of each quarter play a single game knockout on Wednesday and the two winners face off on Friday for the trophy.

Team Alvin Caron took a single in first end and stole two in the second end against team Pat Burke. The two teams played a hitting game and that lead to a single for Burke in the third.

A couple of half-shot hits led to a draw for three with hammer for Caron and he made no mistake. After a steal of one for Caron in the fifth for a 7-1 lead, the hitting prowess of the Caron side kept the score low and ran Burke out of rocks in the eighth. Make the final 7-3 for Caron.

The second game was between teams Murray Walsh and Dave Davidow. In stark contrast to the game on the next sheet, lots of rocks were in play most ends.

With hammer in the first end team Davidow drew for a score of two. Playing second in the second end Rick Georgetti made a double raise takeout that setup his skip Walsh with a draw for four. Walsh came up a couple of feet heavy and only took three.

In the third end Davidow had a draw for three but came up light and took two. With lots of guards and a couple of rocks in the rings Walsh just misses an angle raise takeout and gives up a single. Walsh takes a single in the fifth and steals one in the sixth when Davidow rubs off of a guard. Down one with hammer in eight, and a wall of granite between him and a Davidow rock in the four foot, Walsh tried an angle raise takeout, but a nose hit drove it by shot rock.

Davidow moves on to the final.

On Friday, teams Dave Davidow faced Alvin Caron for the season finale.

With lots of rocks in play, Davidow sat as many as four rocks counting. With hammer, team Davidow rubbed off a guard and gave up a single.

In the second end, Keith Smyth made a double takeout and stick for team Davidow and then Caron draws to the button to sit one. Davidow with hammer then draws to the pin for a single. In the third end, both teams keep the sheet clean and Caron completes the blank with a hit and roll out. In the fourth with Davidow sitting three, Caron had a hit and stick but his rock did not curl and sailed past giving Davidow the three.

In the fifth Dave Muir on team Davidow made a double takeout and left them sitting two. Alvin with hammer made a nose hit for two.

It took a measure in the sixth to give Caron a single and a tie at four. In the seventh, Davidow had a draw to the eight foot for a single, and made it. In the eighth, Alvin with his first shot made an angle raise double takeout that left him sitting two.

Dave with his last rock, raised his own rock to sit second shot. Alvin, with hammer, attempted a triple raise takeout, but his rock over curled and only glanced off the opposition rock raising it in for shot, giving the game to Dave Davidow.
