Pairing fine food and fine wine with fine company has raised $53,000 for patients receiving orthopedic care now and well into the future at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH).
Earlier this week, the KBRH Health Foundation, in partnership with The Josie Hotel, announced the outstanding success of the Perfectly Paired Chef’s Collaboration Fundraiser held last month (March 16).
This esteemed event, a fundraiser for the KBRH Orthopedic Enhancement Project, featured the culinary talents of renowned Chef Bruno Feldeisen and Chef Takashi Harada, the Josie’s executive chef.
In addition to culinary delectables, the event opened with speeches from Pasin, foundation chair Lindy Welsby, the Josie’s Robert Murray, and two of KBRH’s orthopedic surgeons — Dr. Michel Hjelkrem and Dr. Susan Ge — setting the tone for an evening dedicated to advancing orthopedic care in the region.
“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by our community and honoured to have had the opportunity to partner with The Josie Hotel, The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge, esteemed chefs and their culinary teams, KBRH’s orthopedic surgeons, Roche Wines, and all our sponsors and supporters for this important cause,” Lisa Pasin, Executive Director of the KBRH Health Foundation, shared.
“The success of the Perfectly Paired Chef’s Collaboration Fundraiser underscores the incredible impact that collective action can have on enhancing healthcare services in our region.”
Acclaimed for his role as a judge on CBC’s Great Canadian Baking Show, Chef Feldeisen joined forces with Chef Harada of The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge to delight attendees with an array of exquisite dishes expertly paired with exceptional wines from Roche Wines.
“The Josie Hotel and The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge are privileged to have hosted the KBRH Health Foundation’s fundraising dinner for the second consecutive year,” said Robert Murray, The Josie’s general manager.
“Our commitment to advancing healthcare in our local region is a priority, and we are proud to stand behind the Orthopedic Enhancement Project at KBRH.”
Murray extends appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the event.
“Our culinary team, under the leadership of Executive Chef Takashi, alongside the esteemed guest Chef Bruno Feldeisen, generously lent their talents to this noble cause, reaffirming our dedication to the well-being of our community.”
With funds raised from Perfectly Paired, the project has reached an impressive milestone, accumulating a total of $483,000.
Funds will be used to acquire state-of-the-art medical equipment to further enhance orthopedic services and treatment options for KBRH patients; and bring a new level of service including total ankle replacements and hip and knee replacements with a one-day discharge.
