‘Perfectly Paired’ raises $70,000 for neonatal unit at Trail hospital

This spring, a Tier 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is opening at KBRH

Serving delicacies such as scallop tartar, lightly cured steelhead trout and crispy pork belly with complementary wines was not only a welcome treat for those who attended “Perfectly Paired” earlier this month, the fundraising event brought in a hearty $70,000 for advanced neonatal care at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH).

This spring, a Tier 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is opening at KBRH, thereby increasing local capacity to care for premature babies requiring complex care.

“It is an absolute privilege to be part of this amazing community,” said Dr. Ian Ferguson, obstetrics and gynecology specialist, and KBRH department head of maternity/pediatrics. “We see the direct effect of the donations from the KBRH Health Foundation and are incredibly grateful for everyone who has contributed.”

In partnership with The Josie Hotel and The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge, the KBRH Health Foundation’s “Perfectly Paired” soirée featured a chef’s collaboration of a five-course culinary experience with food and wine pairings, live music, a silent auction and donation opportunities.

Attendees included corporate partners, medical staff and physicians, and individual donors.

“The entire team at The Josie and the Velvet Restaurant and Lounge were honoured to host the KBRH fundraising dinner,” said David Curell, general manager, The Josie Hotel. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all community partners and suppliers including Gordon Food Supplies and Stoneboat Pinot House for donating food and beverage product for the evening to enable the foundation to raise funds towards the NICU project,” he added.

“Our culinary team along with special guest, Chef Bruno Feldeisen, are proud to have contributed to such an important project for our community.”

Lisa Pasin, KBRH Health Foundation executive director, shared that holding “Perfectly Paired” in The Josie was a perfect partnership for this unique and special event.

“We are grateful for the team at The Josie, including Chef Bruno Feldeisen and Executive Chef Takashi Harada, who worked tirelessly with us to deliver a fantastic event for our guests.”

The foundation’s team of supporters, including corporations, individuals, medical staff and sponsors, all came together in the spirit of raising funds for KBRH’s Tier 3 NICU, she added.

“It was an outstanding evening which supported an important cause and we are thankful for all who participated.”
