This week’s Trail Blazers feature gives a little teaser before a fleet of model cars roll into town this weekend.

“In recognition of the West Kootenay Smoke ‘N Steel Car Show, setting up this Saturday along the Esplanade in Trail, we present the Columbia Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada,” begins Sarah Benson-Lord, manager, Trail Museum and Archives and Visitor Centre.

Published in the June 3, 1975 edition of the Trail Times, this image shows members of the club parading along Pine Avenue for Trail International Days.

Ten vintage automobiles, ranging from 1926 to 1941 models, travelled the parade route.

“Three trophies were awarded, with first place going to Bill Thiel of Penticton, driving a 1936 Cadillac Fleetwood,” Benson-Lord notes. “A 1930 Durant took second-place honours, owned and driven by Len Hurst of Fruitvale.”

Lyle Ward of Nelson, driving a 1931 Crown Victoria, was awarded third place.

Check out the 2023 car show’s weekend itinerary at www.smokensteelautoclub.com, Benson-Lord adds.

“You’re sure to see some exciting and vintage rides!”

Saturday, June 17 will be the 12th annual “Cruisin´ the Columbia” show and shine held in Trail. Organizers say there will be a little something for everyone, so bring the family and enjoy the day perusing the vehicles.

The show opens to the public at 10 a.m. and will run to 3 p.m.
