Film

• Sunday Cinema presents “The Way Back” directed by Peter Weir and starring Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and Jim Sturgess. The true story of Siberian Gulag survivors and their remarkable escape and trek across thousands of miles of hostile country during the Second World War. Royal Theatre, 4 p.m. admission $9.

• Visac Gallery presents “Reflections of Light” by Catherine Wetmore, a Trail artist whose acrylic paintings employ a unique technique to draw out the light and beauty of Trail’s landscape. Monday to Friday, noon-4 p.m., see visacgallery.com or call 364-1181 for more information.

• Rouge Gallery continues its music series with an evening of chamber music and fine wine. Selkirk Camerata members Wendy Herbison (violin), Vic Neufeld (violin) and Alex Nichol (double bass) perform a musical journey through history with Baroque and classical works. Saturday, 7:30 p.m. $12 in advance $15 at the door.

• Rossland Sacred Heart Catholic Woman’s League is holding a St. Patrick’s Day Tea on Saturday, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall, $4.

• Lenten Luncheon Series welcomes Major Heather Harbin from the Salvation Army who will speak on “Conversations About Prayer” at Trail United Church, Thursday, March 24 from noon to 1 p.m.

• Trail and District Public Library welcomes Tanna Patterson-Z of Creston who will be reading from her novel, “Butterflies in Bucaramanga.” Based on the story of Creston driller Ed Leonard who was kidnapped by Columbian FARC rebels in 1998 and held captive for 105 days. Thursday, March 24, 7 p.m.

• Red Mountain Resort is hosting “The Gathering” where the world’s best photographers and athletes descend on the renowned powder hole to celebrate the art of ski film and photography. • The Rossland Eagles Auxiliary is hosting a borscht luncheon Saturday, March 26, from 1-4 p.m. to benefit Corbin Lew, a 10-year-old Castlegar boy with a cancerous brain tumour.
