Music
• Kootenay Savings Music in the Park welcomes folk pop musicians Saskia and Darrel to Gyro Park at 7 p.m. tonight. Next Thursday, Music in the Park’s final performance welcomes the Old-Time Fiddlers #9.
• The Spot hosts a free outdoor concert in its parking lot Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. Entertainment includes Jason Thomas, Garth McKinnon, The Misfits, and Inflection. Beyond highlighting local talent, the show is a chance to raise awareness and donations for People Loving People, which rescues, repairs and redistributes used clothing, household goods and medical supplies to those in need locally and in developing countries around the world.
Theatre
• To mark the end of another successful season, the Gold Fever Follies present Naughty Knickers Night 2, a cabaret talent show followed by a spoof on this year’s 25th anniversary show - “The Race, the Voice and the Gentlewomen” - which chronicles Augustus Heinze’s creation of a small copper smelter in Trail, what later developed into Teck. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, with the curtains pulled at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at Rossland Pro Hardware and the Miner’s Hall during show times or $12 at the door.
• The Columbia Phoenix Players are holding auditions for their Christmas play, “Scrooge’s Christmas Carol,” a comedy based on the Dickens’ classic. The auditions go Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the basement hall of the St. Andrews Church on Pine St. in Trail.
Health
• The Kidney Foundation of B.C. is hosting its annual Kidney Walk to raise funds and increase the number of donors to help stem this debilitating disease. Walk, volunteer or sponsor a walker. Register at 9 a.m. Sunday at Gyro Park, walk starts at 10 a.m.
• The Compassionate Friends is a self-help support group for parents and families who have lost a child, at any age from any cause. Please call Joan for summer meeting plans and any further information 693-2281.
Other
•The Friends of the Rossland Range continue their community hikes to Old Glory peak. Learn about the history of the Old Glory Forest Service Lookout, the highest weather station in Canada and enjoy a beautiful hike to the highest peak in the Rossland Range. The hike goes Saturday and hikers are asked to prepare for a 5-8 hour hike. Bring a lot of water, a lunch and be bear aware. Hiking clothes advised (layers, jacket, no jeans). Meet at 9 a.m., the Old Glory Trailhead, seven km from Rossland on Hwy 3B. Call Suzanne and Rejean Paquin 362-6809 for info.
• Beaver Valley Recreation is hosting a one-stop registration night on Thursday, Sept. 1 at the Fruitvale Memorial Hall between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Sign up for Beaver Valley Minor Hockey, the Beaver Valley Skating Club, BV bowling, library children’s programs, all BV Rec programs, and more.

• Kootenay Savings reprise of Family Movie in the Park goes on Sept. 9 in Haley Park. Enjoy Kung-Fu Panda 2 on the big screen, under the stars. Admission is free but movie-goers are asked to bring an item for the food bank.
