The “Gateway to the Beaver Valley” will be hopping all day Saturday as Montrose celebrates the village’s annual Family Fun Day.
All surrounding communities are invited to the day-long festivities that kick off at 8 a.m. with a trek up the Antenna Trail.
If an early morning hike doesn’t sound fetching, a crew of flapjack flippers will be on hand from 8-10 a.m. at the village’s community hall for a traditional pancake breakfast.
The popular parade through town begins at 11 a.m. and for the first time, a Montrose native will be leading the way and riding in style while she represents the City of Trail.
“I’ve been in the Montrose parade for little stuff,” explained recently crowned Miss Trail, Ella Meyer.
“But this time it feels different to represent my city in my village,” she said. “I couldn’t be happier and I’m really looking forward to it.”
After the procession of a couple dozen local entrants, celebrations will move into Montrose Park for first time events such as a bubble gum blowing contest and watermelon eating competition.
“This is the first year I’m doing this on my own with my committee,” said Montrose Coun. Mary Gay. “It was very successful last year so we’re working twice as hard this year to make it even better.”
Another new feature is Little League games that are open to park spectators at 9 a.m. and noon.
“We’ve never had them here before,” said Gay. “We thought we’d have the Trail teams and try to bring more people into the Montrose family days.”
However, the hit of the party this year might be the vintage-style photo booth which is open to all visitors free-of-charge along with children’s races, face painting, horse drawn rides, and an air brush tattooist.
The day will round out with the Montrose fireman flipping burgers or searing steaks in the community hall from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with dinner tickets available now at the village hall.
