Re: 1920’s photo of the Trail Smelter

(Published in the Nov. 30, 2023 issue of the Trail Times)

Upon seeing the above-mentioned photo and reading the article, and as a retiree with 38 years and the son of a retiree with 40 years, I was compelled to express to this corporate giant, Teck, my appreciation.

With due diligence the company has been cleaning up its facilities and surrounding properties.

Through the early to middle part of the 1900’s, CM&S produced toxins which polluted our community: killing trees and eroding topsoil on the surrounding hills.

Now, the hillsides are getting green again and our environment is safer for work and play.

Thank you, Teck, and a special thank you to the union, for helping make Trail the beautiful city it is today.
