On Friday, March 15, at approximately 3:15 p.m, I was witness to a shoplifter being caught and restrained by staff at Ferraro’s market in downtown Trail.

From the point of his being restrained until the RCMP arrived there was a 15-minute delay.

Considering the problems we have in downtown Trail it astounds me there is no permanent RCMP presence in the downtown core that would have been able to respond immediately.

And for Ferraro’s staff to have to restrain a thief all the while being threatened and cursed by this individual leaves me to wonder what the priorities are for the RCMP.

My suggestion for the RCMP is to make their presence known on a permanent basis, with a satellite office in downtown Trail.

That way such egregious delays don’t continue to happen.

Steven Becker,
