Trail Community in Bloom — it’s not just about flowers!

Letter from Glenn Wallace

Trail CiB volunteers cleaning garden beds in the Gulch last week. “A bed that would have taken two days to clean was finished in just two and a half hours,” Rachael Brown, Trail CiB contract gardener, posted to Facebook. “When you see them around, make sure to thank volunteers: Keith Smyth, Debbie Wallace, Glenn Wallace, Dan Rodlie, Nick Cashol and Martin Hatfield. And thank you to Melissa Austen at Haus of Horticulture for the expert advice and pruning.” Photo: Rachael Brown

The March 21 issue of the Trail Times contained several articles that struck a chord with me.

As a volunteer with Trail’s Community in Bloom team, I recognize that beautifying the community with flowers and shrubs is the most important thing that CiB Trail does.

But there are several lesser known activities with which CIB Trail is involved and the March 21 Times touched on them.

1. The article “Spring has sprung: Trail CiB begins garden cleanup and pruning” spoke to the need for preparation before flowers can be planted and shrubs can take on their annual growth;

2. The opinion piece “We can all make a positive difference” spoke to how removing the unattractive elements of litter, debris, and garbage on our streets can be taken on by any citizen out for a walk about town.

3. Finally, the article “Funding available for businesses impacted by vandalism” speaks to the opportunity for businesses to deal with graffiti vandalism or physical destruction of their property in order to support the efforts of others trying to beautify our town.

I hope your readers take to heart the need for every citizen to contribute what they can to the beautification of Trail.

Hopefully those three articles struck a chord with some of your readers.
