Two cars almost spun down the mountainside on Friday afternoon after a head-on collision outside of Castlegar.
According to a RCMP media release, a Castlegar resident and her infant were traveling southbound on Highway 22 when a vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Minto Road began to turn left.
The southbound vehicle struck the left-turning vehicle, colliding head-on with the driver’s side door and causing both vehicles to spin across the highway and almost over the embankment on the east shoulder of the road.
Castlegar Fire Services used the “jaws of life” to cut off the driver door of the left-turning vehicle to remove the 19-year-old Castlegar driver and 59-year-old passenger. They were transported to hospital by BC Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle also suffered non-life threatening injuries and the infant was unharmed, likely due to the proper use of a child restraint.
Police are investigating the incident but at this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
