Input sought on skate park

Tonight at Memorial Centre

Skate park experts are calling on residents to give their input into the design of Trail’s park slated for the Gulch.

Consultants from New Line Skate Parks will be hosting a workshop in the Red Floor Room at the Trail Memorial Centre tonight at 7 p.m.

New Line has been hired to create the $25,000 design expected to be completed by October.

There have been a couple attempts in recent years at getting a park constructed that date back to 2003, when the site proposed was near the parking area in Gyro Park.

Plans were stalled when residents opposed the location but a year later, the chain up area was considered and planning followed.

The project then was simpler – a concrete slab with portable structures and features – but the cost came in far over budget.

“There didn’t seem to be wholehearted support for the project,” added city administrator Michelle McIsaac. “The site received mixed reviews from the Rossland Avenue businesses (and) the concept of the modular components didn’t seem to be fully supported or embraced by the youth so the project was shelved.”
