Man dies near Christina Lake

A man died after falling out of his canoe Thursday on Moody Lake near Christina Lake.

A man died after falling out of his canoe Thursday on Moody Lake near Christina Lake.

On Aug. 9 at 9:30 a.m. a report was received by Grand Forks/Boundary RCMP that a man was in his canoe on Moody Lake cutting weeds out of the lake (Moody Lake is a man made lake on Private Property located approximately three kilometres west of Christina Lake).

The man fell out of his canoe and attempted to climb back but then disappeared under the water.  He was not wearing a life jacket or personal flotation device.

B.C. Ambulance and Christina Lake Fire and Rescue were called to the scene. The man was later located approximately 50 feet from shore, and about eight to 12 feet under the water’s  surface.

The B.C. Coroner Service has taken over as the lead agency in this investigation.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. He was a 78-year-old Christina Lake resident.
