The Arrow Lakes Caribou Society is busy preparing for year two of operations at the Central Selkirk Caribou Maternity Pen.

In 2022, the society worked on more communication about the pen project, lichen picking to feed the caribou once in the pen, and planning for a second season of maternity penning.

A large part of striving for the success of maternity penning is educating the public on their efforts to recover a species at-risk.

Last year, the society received a grant from the Nakusp and Area Community Foundation and used the money to create an informational video.

This video, produced by volunteer Christine Nielsen, tells the story of the start of the Central Selkirk Caribou Maternity Pen.

The footage was shot by volunteers, Frankowski Pictures and Bohdan Doval. Video editing was done by Carlo Alcos.

You can find the video on the society’s website; https://arrowlakescaribousociety.com, or on Youtube at Central Selkirk Caribou Maternity Pen.

The society thanks all the volunteers and the Nakusp and Area Community Foundation for making this project viable.

Since publishing the video, the society has gained more social media followers, lichen-picking volunteers, and other volunteers wanting to help out with pen operations.

The informational video is a great representation of how many stakeholders support the caribou society, and details how many groups are involved in the recovery actions taken by the Arrow Lakes Caribou Society.
