A cooler than normal November was sprinkled with plenty of snowfall that was combined with rain to make for below average precipitation, according to weather services at the Southeast Fire Centre.
The mean monthly temperature was 1.2 degrees cooler than average, making last month the coldest November since 2003. A record daily minimum temperature of -10.1 degrees was set on the 16th.
“A modified Arctic air mass seeped into the area at times mid month,” according to a weather service monthly snapshot, which noted the temperature dipped to -10.7 degrees during the night of the 19th.
The first snowfall of the season brought premature smiles to some winter sport fanatics on the morning of the 3rd, when the minor amount of white stuff changed to rain during that afternoon.
“The most significant disturbance was a large and very slow moving frontal system which dumped 12.2 centimetres of snow and then 25.8 millimetres of rain during the night of the 21st through to the night of the 23rd.”
But seasonal temperatures and mixed precipitation reduced the amount of snow on the ground to a trace during the final few days of the month.
