Police responded to a potentially dangerous situation on Monday evening involving a man on the Victoria St. Bridge in Trail.

Police responded to a potentially dangerous situation on Monday evening involving a man on the Victoria St. Bridge in Trail.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Trail and Greater District RCMP detachment received a report of a man on the Trail bridge, with a rope tied around himself.

According to the police report, the man, in his early 20s, fled to East Trail when officers arrived at the scene.

He was later located on the roof of Kiro Manor threatening to kill himself.

At one point, according to the report, the man tried to grab a live power line.

FortisBC was called to the scene and cut power to the line.

The fire department positioned its ladder truck to allow police access to the roof where the man was taken into custody. Firefighters assisted in removing the man from the roof and he was taken to hospital for assessement.

The report states it is believed the man had consumer a large quantity of alcohol and drugs prior  to the incident.
