Rossland receives funds for Utility Master Plan

Plan to provide assessments of the existing storm drainage, sewer and water distribution networks

The City of Rossland received a healthy grant from the Canada Community Building Fund to help support its infrastructure.

Rossland received $284,445 to complete a Utility Master Plan. The Plan will provide detailed condition assessments of the existing storm drainage, sanitary sewer and water distribution networks, which will allow for a much anticipated infrastructure replacement and renewal efforts.

On April 17, Terry Beech, Minister of Finance and MP for Burnaby North-Seymour, Anne Kang, B.C. Minister of Municipal Affairs, and Councillor Jen Ford, President of the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), announced a federal investment of more than $103.5 million to support 45 community infrastr ucture projects.

“As British Columbia continues to grow and welcome newcomers, communities face increasing demands for services and infrastructure,” said Anne Kang, minister of municipal affairs. “This is why our government is supporting projects like road development and wastewater management. We’re ensuring that British Columbians have access to these essential services and amenities that they can rely on within their communities.”

The city has also placed $2.15M from the Growing Communities Fund into reserves until the Utility Master Plan is complete and capital projects identified.

The City of Castlegar also benefitted greatly from the fund receiving $6 million for an expansion of the West Kootenay Regional Airport.

Nelson will get $395,000 for its liquid waste management plan, and the Village of Nakusp $527,000 for its raw water irrigation project.
