Environment Canada (EC) is advising commuters headed toward the Boundary that a snowfall warning is in effect.

In an advisory issued Tuesday afternoon, the alert covers the southwest interior, which encompasses Highway 3 and the Boundary region.

Snow accumulations up to 15 centimetres (cm) are called for near the valley bottom and up to 20 cm is expected to fall on highway passes.

“Please make sure you are aware and prepared for winter driving conditions,” YRB Kootenay Ltd. advised Tuesday afternoon. “Check DriveBC for current road conditions and updates.”

The storm is forecast to taper off to a few flurries by Wednesday morning.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions, EC advises.

Visibility may be reduced at times in heavy snow.
