A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet was shot down over Ukraine on Thursday, with the attack killing all 298 on board – including one Canadian, a 24-year-old med student currently studying in Romania.
On Friday, U.S. intelligence reported that a surface-to-air missile took down the flight, MH-17, which had taken off from Amsterdam's Schipol Airport.
U.S. President Barack Obama's administration did not provide any official speculation on who was responsible for the strike, but an unnamed "official said U.S. intelligence assessments suggest it is more likely pro-Russian separatists or the Russians rather than Ukrainian government forces shot down the plane" (via The Canadian Press).
