Traffic stop leads to grow-op bust

Two men remain in custody after police discovered sophisticated marijuana grow operations in Salmo last week.

A search warrant was executed in three homes on two properties in the 4,000 block of Erie Ross Spur Road last Thursday, where about 250 marijuana plants in various stages of growth as well as several pounds of dried plant were seized from two sites. In addition, a firearm that wasn’t stored properly as well as other weapons were discovered during the search.

The investigation into the property began after a traffic stop last month, where 21 marijuana plants and several pounds of bud were seized from two men in the Salmo area.

Police are recommending charges against these two men, who are set to appear in Nelson court next month.

Members of the RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Services worked in connection with the West Kootenay Integrated Safety Unit, the Salmo RCMP, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment investigation section and the RCMP police dog service group on this bust.
