A bright new mini-library locker in centre court of the Trail mall aims to increase all-ages accessibility to reading.

On Monday, the Trail and District Public Library put the finishing touches on its mini-library locker at Waneta Plaza, a project aimed at enhancing reachability and expanding library services.

The initiative is part of the library’s ongoing commitment to providing creative and inclusive solutions for its membership.

“We are thrilled to introduce this innovative mini library locker at Waneta mall, as it represents a significant step towards improving accessibility and making our library services more convenient for the community,” said Samantha Murphy, library director.

“Our goal is to reach individuals where they are and make the library service as convenient as possible.

“We believe this initiative will not only benefit our existing members but also attract new library members.”

When the mall locker officially opens next week, library members will have the option to collect and return their reserved materials.

Murphy points out, “This enhancement aligns with the library’s mission to adapt to the evolving needs of the community, offering a more flexible and user-friendly approach to library services.”

The locker is stocked with a diverse collection of materials for adults and children, as well as engaging games for families that can be checked out at any time, fee-free, with a Trail library card.

From the latest bestsellers or a game night option, the mini library locker will offer something for everyone.

“The mini-library locker will modernize the way community members engage with the library,” Murphy added.

“By bringing library services closer to where people work, shop, and spend their leisure time, the Trail and District Public Library aims to increase accessibility and encourage more individuals to become library members.”

The Trail and District Public Library encourages the community to explore the new mini library locker during the official launch on Wednesday, April 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Library staff will be onsite to help patrons discover the range of materials available, issue library cards, serve cake and host story time on the hour.
