“The Southeast District Major Crimes Unit is continuing their investigation into the homicide of Jordan Workman, 38, of Castlegar,” Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, South East District NCO, revealed last week.

Jan. 14 marked the one-year anniversary since Workman’s body was discovered in the trunk of a burnt out vehicle on Highway 22 just outside of Genelle.

The crime began to unfold after Kootenay Boundary firefighters responded to the call of a vehicle fire that night at approximately 9 p.m.

The car was abandoned and left ablaze on the side of the road.

The RCMP now state the crime was drug-related and that the burnt out car belonged to Workman.

Investigators have also revealed there was a sighting of Workman a day before his remains were found in the trunk.

“Police have confirmed that Workman was in the Castlegar area the evening of January 13,” Moskaluk said in a news release.

“RCMP investigators believe Workman was targeted.”

Moskaluk added, “The findings indicate that this incident involves a targeted victim as a result of his involvement in the area drug trade and does not reflect any increased safety risks to the public.”

RCMP investigators are looking to speak to anyone who had contact with Jordan Workman or saw his silver Honda Civic on Jan. 13, 2018.

Information regarding the whereabouts of Workman or his vehicle during that time can be given to the RCMP via a dedicated tip line at 1.877.987.8477 or through Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
