At dinnertime Saturday, Feb. 3, a frontline Trail RCMP officer was on routine patrol in the 1900 block of Martin Street, in Fruitvale, when he observed a recognizable passenger inside a car driven by a Trail man, 48.

The RCMP report that the officer was aware that the passenger, a 44-year-old man, had outstanding warrants for his arrest and had allegedly been actively avoiding police.

The officer detained the occupants and vehicle roadside.

Backup arrived on scene to assist with arresting and taking both men into custody.

Police say 21 grams of a substance suspected to be street drugs was discovered in a subsequent search, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia, weapons, ammunition, body armour, and cash.

The passenger was later released while the driver, who is known to police, was held in custody and is facing several criminal charges.

“It took some time but this time the Mounties finally got their man,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
