In loving memory ~

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Fairbridge, 88.

Barry died peacefully at Penticton Regional Hospital on November 1, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Violet, and is survived by sons Robin and Derek (Mindy), and grandsons Linus and Isaac.

Barry was born to Paul and Vera Fairbridge in 1934 in England. He grew up in Bailiff Bridge, Yorkshire with his brothers, Peter and Stephen. In 1949, the Fairbridges emigrated to Canada, settling in Trail, BC, where the family was joined by baby sister, Joy. It was here, in Trail, that Barry met Violet Cass. The couple married in 1964 and, after a brief stop in Victoria, settled in Penticton where they raised their two sons and Barry worked in the building-supplies trade.

Barry will best be remembered as an ebullient force in the musical communities of both the Trail and Penticton areas. His clear, bright tenor enlivened everything from church choirs to barbershop quartets to Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. And he was a skilled performer on the violin, the harmonica and—no, seriously—the musical saw. His considerable musical talents were balanced by a disarming kindness and an impish sense of humour. Barry will also be remembered as an avid and adept gardener, always quick to share the bounty of his tomato harvests.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, his gentle, cheerful presence will be dearly missed.

The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to Dr. Richard Tatham for his care and guidance as well as a special thank you to all the nurses, care aides and volunteers at Moog & Friends Hospice House who made such a difference for Barry.

In keeping with Barry's wishes, there will be no memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Penticton & District Hospice Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
