It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Wife, Mother, Nonna and Bisnonna, Delfina Mason, on April 27th, 2013.
Delfina was born November 26th, 1928 in S’ Giorgio Richinvelda Pozzo, Italy to Emma and Antonio Colonello. She was married to Angelo Mason on her birthday, November 26th, 1949 and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. A few months after they were married, Angelo left Italy to come to Canada. Delfina made the long journey across the ocean, landing in New York City and then across Canada to Trail by herself in October of 1950. Quite a feat, especially as she didn’t speak the language.
Delfina and Angelo made their home in Fruitvale in 1952 where they had four children. ‘Nonna’ was always ready with warm, dry socks for grandchildren in the winter, good food and yummy candy bowls. She enjoyed her flowers and garden, and spent many hours outdoors tending to them both. Delfina’s main focus was her family and making sure everyone was well fed and well loved.
Delfina was predeceased by her parents and two sisters: Angelina Colonello and Linda Altan. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, three sons: Carlo (Marilyn), Dave (Brenda), Bernie (Sherri), daughter: Sylvia (Rick Dominici), grandchildren: Marlo (Mike Caputo), Michele (Kevin Ihas), Mike (Janet), Jeff (Julia), Jarret (Megan), Matthew and Nathan; eight great grandchildren: Jesse, Josh, Emmie, Nate, Mya, Gino, Gemma and Taylor, as well as two sisters: Cathy Colonello, Nives (Reg) Bozzer, a brother Tino (Laura) Colonello, sister-in-law Ava Cominotto, and many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service took place Thursday, May 2nd, 2013 at the Fruitvale Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the emergency personnel that attended the home that night, to Personal Alternatives for their assistance with the arrangements, to Father Jim McHugh & Elizabeth Stephens for the service, and to our friends and family for all of their support during this difficult time.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, St. Michael’s School or the MS Society of Canada.
Broken Chain
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone;
for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
