We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Doug after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.

Douglas “Digger” Davis was born on July 1, 1955 in Rossland and came to rest on August 10, 2011 with family and friends by his side.

Survived by his loving wife Carmen, children Jordon and Laura, his parents Ken & Beryl Davis, mother-in-law Natalina Maddalozzo, brother-in-law Gianni, nephews Walker & Conner and Andy & Mitchell Davis. He will also be dearly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.

Predeceased by his brother Tom, Grandparents Tommy & Dot Davis, John & Dorothy Baines and Father-in-law Augusto.

Growing up in Rossland Doug graduated from RSS in 1972 at the early age of 16. He played hockey for the Rossland Warriors before leaving to go play Junior “A” hockey in Brandon, Kelowna and Merritt. While attending Selkirk College he played for the Selkirk Saints then on to the University of BC where he graduated in 1980 with a degree in pharmacy. As a community pharmacist he worked at Alpine Drug Mart in Rossland, Koo’s Pharmacy in Trail and then as Head Pharmacist and Associate Owner at Shoppers Drug Mart in Trail. As a dedicated medical professional, Doug will be remembered for the way he patiently, kindly and compassionately counseled his clients.

Doug was passionate about playing hockey, skiing on snow and water, hunting, fishing and woodcutting. He inherited a gift of tinkering with machines and vehicles and enjoyed countless hours working until they were fixed and back in running order. After building their home in Paterson, Doug enjoyed a life as a hobby farmer raising their own beef and working endlessly around the property. Doug was an honorary member of the Klister Klub, founding member of the Gutter Gang and enthusiastic member of the Skidder Recreational Hockey Team. A true gentleman to the end, Digger will hold a special place in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the RSS Gymnasium at 2390 Jubilee Street, Rossland. Reverend Ken Siemens will be officiating.
