In Loving Memory ~
It is with profound sadness that the family of Eleanor Gattafoni Robinson announces her peaceful passing on Monday, March 4, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Eleanor was born in Trail, BC and raised in "The Gulch." She went to Central School and graduated from JL Crowe. Eleanor began working at Cominco as a young woman and retired from Teck after 35 years of service. It was a job that she truly enjoyed.
Serving five terms as a Trail City Councillor, she was part of many committees and helped to promote changes in Trail, the City that she loved. She was a true ambassador. Eleanor said she would never dream of living anywhere else and called Trail "Heaven on Earth".
Community Service was a major part of her life, she loved to participate in her community. Eleanor volunteered her time with countless organizations throughout Trail. She could often be found at the Spud Shack at the Cominco Arena or at any Canadian Cancer Society event.
One of Eleanor's proudest accomplishments was winning the 2009 Citizen of the Year award for Trail/Warfield. She was both humbled and honoured to receive that recognition. She also received the "Canada 125" Commemorative Medal in 1992 for her significant and long-term contribution to the welfare of her fellow citizens and the well-being of her community and Canada.
Giving selflessly, and going above and beyond was part of Eleanor's nature. She loved to engage with people and learned as much about them as she could. Performing random acts of kindness was one of her guiding principles in life and she tried to live by this rule. She truly was an angel in her community.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents Giuseppe and Carmen Gattafoni, her sister Helen and her brother Father Stephen Gattafoni.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Marlise Gattafoni, her nephew Ron (Sara) Gattafoni, her niece Carmen Gattafoni (Robert). She is also survived by her great-nieces and nephews who she loved dearly, Max (Apryl) Gattafoni, Paige (Madison) Gattafoni, Alexa, Bryce and Myah Matthes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish at 11:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2024 with Father Ben Buela, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Clark's Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
