With family by his side Emil Garay passed away on August 23, 2023, at the age of 84.
Born in Trail BC June 29, 1939, Emil spent his early years on Binns Street in Trail before relocating to Kaslo.
Emil started work for CP rail in 1957 and continued until 1960. He eventually transferred to Cominco where he found his love of welding. He soon after enrolled in the Nelson vocational school. After receiving his welding ticket, he continued to work, and eventually went on to teach welding school, in Nelson.
His ambitions and interest in welding led him to start his own business, where he promised to weld everything except broken hearts and the crack of dawn.
He moved on to join the Boilermakers in 1967 and enjoy travelling all over BC for shutdowns, even having his young family join him at times.
He enjoyed fishing, camping old cars, and collecting rare Dinky toys, a hobby that stayed with him until the very end.
Emil is survived by his loving wife, Deniese Garay of Castlegar his son, Ronny Garay (Lori), daughter Charmaine Goldsbury (Warren) of Castlegar and grandchildren Helena Garay, Presley Garay, and Brynleigh Garay,
He was predeceased by his father Ludvig in 1957 his mother Anna in 1972 and his brother Joe Garay in 1996.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Castleview care centre for their care with Emil over the last few months.
A celebration of life will be held June 29, 2024.
