It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ian (John) Parker McDonald on March 8, 2013 at Rosewood Village, Trail, BC. Ian was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather

Ian was born on July 25, 1919 in Greenock, Scotland. He was called to serve his country and joined the Highland Light Infantry in January, 1940. Ian served overseas and did not return from the war until 1946. Ian and Joan owned and operated several successful businesses including a hotel. He was always the perfect host.

Ian and Joan immigrated to Canada in 1986 to be near family. He was a member of the Beaver Valley Rotary Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. Ian loved to socialize with his friends in Fruitvale over a cup of coffee and was well known throughout the village.

Ian was predeceased by his wife Joan McDonald on December 26, 2012 and his parents John and Susannah McDonald, his sister Margaret McDonald and his brother Fraser McDonald. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Susan Trousdale and Rona McDonald, son-in-law John Trousdale, granddaughter Heather (Waqar) Mughal, grandson Scott (Anya) Trousdale and his grandchildren Hanna, Connor, Sam, Cassidy and Kennedy.

Ian will always be remembered for his great sense of humour and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place.

The family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude for the loving care Ian received from the home care workers and all the staff at Rosewood Village. They would also like to thank Dr. Stanley and Dr. DeGreef for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ian’s memory to BC Cancer Foundation, Suite 660-686 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1G1 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
