In loving memory ~
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Irene, on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Ivy House, Silver Kettle Village, Grand Forks, BC. Mom was born in Trail, BC and lived there her whole life until her move to Silver Kettle Village last May.
She is predeceased by her husband Harry, her parents John and Mary McLim, her brother Charles McLim, and all her brothers and sisters in-law. Mom is survived by her son Donald (Irene) Smyth, her daughter Joanne (Howard) McMeekin, and her son Gordon (Teresa) Smyth, ten grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Mom joined many youth organizations such as East Trail Brownies, Orange Lodge Young Ladies, and Figure Skating Club while growing up. She met her best friend and love, Harry, and they were married October 19, 1949. They worked hard developing the family business Trail Cartage and Storage and raising their family. Later mom and dad enjoyed traveling together and after Harry passed Mom continued travelling with her sister-in-law, Velia McLim. Travels covered North America, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe, and Great Britain.
Involvement in KBRH Auxiliary where mom earned her 50-year pin, the United Church Women's Group, and Green Gables Ladies Group gave her many chances to volunteer in the community. Mom was always busy doing crafts, knitting, crocheting, and making luggage tags. She enjoyed outings with her friends for lunch, going to Smoke Eater hockey games, and attending performance concerts. Doing her daily devotional reading, word searches, and knitting dishcloths continued until the last month of her life.
The family would like to express our appreciation and thanks to the special people at Ivy House, Silver Kettle Village, Dr. N. Dalla Lana, Dr. Baxter, and Dr. Fischer for their compassionate care taking care of Mom.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Trail United Church on Friday, September 2nd at 10:00 am. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Irene's memory to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
