It is with great sadness we wish to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother on February 8, 2011. She was born March 29, 1917.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Angelo “Chipo” Pagnan on December 12, 1999. She is survived by her family: Eileen Mickey-Pex (Gary) of Calgary, AB, Nora Staraj (Joe) of Shaunavon, SK, Doreen Mickey of Medicine Hat, AB, Bev MacDermid (Erwin) of Chemainus, BC, Dennis Halpin (Patty) of Trail, and Susan Verdon (Lowell) of Trail; as well as 13 grandchildren and their families.
Irene will be remembered for her bright spirit, her quick wit and her love of her home and family. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and do crafts.
Irene joined the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary in March of 1962. She was a very active member and held office of President 10 terms. Irene received a Life Membership and MSA Award in 2009 – the highest award in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the IODE, working in the Thrift Store and volunteering for the Red Cross. Irene was a member of the Senior’s Centre as well, where she would often be found on Fridays playing BINGO.
A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Trail on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 11:30 a.m., with Padre Meridyth Robertson presiding. All Legionnaires and Ladies Auxiliary please attend. Al Grywacheski of Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” is entrusted with arrangements.
