1935 ~ 2021

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of James (Jim) William Fitzgerald on July 10, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Jim & Vi Fitzgerald of Oasis, and his first-born grandson, Tyler James. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Annette and his three boys; James (Jamie), his wife Cori & their boys Jacob & Ben; Brian, his wife Janice & son Charlie; and Derek, and his partner Sarang. Also, his siblings, Kathy, Peter (Lorraine), Marj (Tom) Milne, Marie Dunham, Geri, Don & Dorothy, and many nieces & nephews.
Jim was born on Dec.14,1935 and grew up in Oasis before marrying Annette on June 15, 1968 and moving to Pine Point, NWT. In 1970, Jim & Annette moved back to Rossland, where they raised their family and have lived ever since.
Jim worked for Cominco for 32 years as an instrument mechanic and on staff before spending a few years at Celgar. In the latter part of his working life, he brought his extensive expertise to many plants in northern BC as well as to H A Simons in Trail. He was a dedicated father who was very involved with Rossland/Trail minor hockey while raising his boys and invested countless hours into the association as both equipment manager & President. Jim also was an avid skier who loved to garden and had several award-winning zucchinis in the Golden City Days Fall Fair. He could recite to you many aspects of the history of Red Mountain in precise detail, a byproduct of his perfect recall memory and his ~60 year involvement with the local hill. Jim skied right up to the end of the 2020-21 season and has had a locker at the base since the day they were first built. We hope #728 can stay in the family as a memento of his love of the sport and of Red.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Trail Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22 at the Knox United Church in Trail. Interment to be held later in the day at Mountain View Cemetery. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements. Please email the family at jim.annette@hotmail.com if you are interested in attending.
