November 12, 1949 - April 2, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness that the family of Joyce Eileen Fizor (nee Bird) announce her passing in Trail, BC on April 2, 2022.
Joyce was born in Salmon Arm, BC on Nov 12, 1949 to Rosalind / Lindie McAllister (nee McAdam) and John Bird and throughout her life was an amazing and loving daughter, friend, mother, wife, grandmother and confidante to all that were lucky enough to be close to her. She regularly sacrificed her own needs and desires for the benefit of others and was the bond that kept family and friendships united, guided by her laughter and love.
Joyce was predeceased by her mother Lindie, her brother John, and stepfather, Jim McAllister. She is survived by her sister-in-law Carol Thompson and her children Rob Bird and Tara Whalen, as well as brother Brett McAllister (Jen) and his boys, Gavin and Tyrel.
Joyce and her ex-husband Nick Fizor were gifted with three children, Shelley (Trish), Charlene/Nikki (Norm), and Duane (Becky). Charlene and Norm provided Joyce with two wonderful grandchildren, Valerie and Sonya Lennox.
Joyce's partner, Lynn Christensen, was Joyce's rock. They loved their travels to Hawaii, Arizona, Las Vegas, the Caribbean and Jamaica and Joyce enjoyed spending time with Lynn's girls, Krystal and Jennifer. Mom was blessed with many friends throughout her life from her days camping, slow pitch, curling, golfing, card making and quiet times at Christina Lake.
Joyce retired in January 2013 from a 40-year career with Interior Health, primarily spent in the Medical Device Sterile Processing Department. Joyce's adopted motto of "feel the fear and do it anyway," lead to her giving even more of her love and life in the latter part of her career, volunteering in hospice care, helping people she previously had not known with the final stages of their lives.
Mom was amazing, even through the tough times Mom stayed positive and you would always see her smile.
The immenseness of our loss cannot be adequately expressed; we will miss you forever momsy.
As an expression of sympathy Joyce would appreciate donations be made in her memory to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation (Oncology Department) at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.com to extend her gratitude to Dr. Scotland and all the staff at Kootenay Boundary Regional Health Oncology Department for their compassionate care during her courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
As per Joyce's wish, there will not be a service. The family will gather at a later date to remember and celebrate Joyce's life. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
