GRANT (nee Doucet), Laurette Germaine Marie — passed away peacefully in Victoria on August 15, 2013.

Laurette began life as a prairie girl in Manitoba. She is an alumnus of J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary, and in 1958 graduated from Trail Business College. Shortly afterwards she settled in Victoria, B.C. to raise her family and fell in love with the milder climes of coastal life. Laurette loved children, and was a committed and well-liked secretary for Sooke School District from 1977 until retiring in 1995. She spent her summers camping in places all over B.C., had a passion for gardening and bird-watching, was an avid reader, and liked a good card game. Laurette had a sharp wit and enjoyed a debate on current affairs, she was a proud member of the Red Hat Ladies of the Westshore, and fiercely loved her children and grandchildren.

Laurette will be dearly missed by her three sons William and Steven of Victoria, and Robert of Surrey, her sister Susanne Dale-Johnson (Doucet) of Ontario, brother Maurice of Castlegar, and three grandchildren, Wm. Robert Dale, Gavin, and Heather.

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Laurette’s life on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. at First Memorial, Saanich, 4725 Falaise Drive.

Laurette was a remarkable, gentle and kind woman who will live in our hearts forever.
