December 18, 1935 - September 8, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lina (Amelia) Berno (nee Gazzola) on Sunday, September 8, 2019. Amelia was born on December 18, 1935 in Riese, Pio X, Provincia de Treviso, Italy. Amelia immigrated to Trail in 1955. While living with her sister, Pia, she reconnected with her childhood friend, Rino Berno and their relationship flourished. They were married in September of 1958. They bought a home in West Trail and together raised a family of two, Gino and Sherry. Amelia loved her family and was always cooking, baking and sewing for them. Amelia came from a large family of 12 children and so family was extremely important to her.
Amelia had several different jobs while working in Trail. She was a cook at the Crown Point for many years, a meat wrapper at the Locker Store, a cook/baker up at Cominco's cafeteria and lastly, a cook at Columbia View Lodge.
Amelia was an avid member of the Colombo Lodge. She enjoyed the frequent banquets and dancing. She and Rino loved to dance the night away. Over the years, Amelia and Rino enjoyed camping with their friends by the Salmo River. Later in life, Amelia went on many day trips to various casinos. Her greatest love was spending time with her 4 grandchildren, babysitting and feeding them her favourite Italian foods and trying to teach them Italian.
Amelia was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her loving husband, Rino, her son Gino (Terri), grandsons; Tristan and Connor, her daughter Sherry (Barry), grandsons; Ryan and Dylan, three sisters, Antonietta, Anita and Fernanda and one brother, Danilo, in Italy, along with many nieces and nephews, both in Canada and Italy.
