MANFREDI- Loretta Mary (nee Gallagher) passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the age of 89 with family at her side in Rosewood Village. She was predeceased by John, her devoted husband of 65 years one month ago; infant son John, sisters Marcella, Lillian and Ann; and brother Roy. Mourning her loss are son Louis (Valerie), daughter Teresa (Dan) Bachynski; grandchildren Peter, Angela, Stacey and Christine; and 4 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Sam and nieces Pat, Betty and Diane along with many friends in Ottawa and at Rosewood Village.

Loretta was born in 1922 in Pembroke, Ontario to Mary Maude Lee and Hugh Gallagher. At the age of 23 she headed to Ottawa to join the Women’s Royal Navy Service (WRENS) as a clerk/messenger during the WW II where she was stationed in Great Britain. Shortly after returning to Canada she met and married her soul mate in John and settled in Ottawa raising two children, Teresa and Louis. Loretta continued working in the Public Service in Ottawa in clerical and stenographic positions with various federal departments, retiring after 35 years of service. She enjoyed traveling the world with John after retiring and taking night courses on various subjects. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Parish in Ottawa for many years and is fondly remembered by the ‘Morning Mass Coffee Group’.

Loretta and John moved to Rosewood Village in Trail in 2004 to be closer to family. Loretta became secretary of the Residents’ Committee at Rosewood Village, and enjoyed playing Bingo and welcoming guests to the Rosewood Teas. Loretta’s faith was an important part of her life and she will be remembered as a very gentle, gracious and kindhearted woman. Rest in peace Mom.
