In Loving Memory ~ Marcia Hampton Rioux was born on May 16, 1947 in Trail to Edouard and Phyllis (née Gray) Gautschi. She spent her childhood in Trail and Montreal. She passed away peacefully in her Toronto home on September 20, 2021, surrounded by love and family. Marcia survived seven different cancers. She died of congestive heart failure.
Marcia was dedicated to the promotion of human rights and equality both nationally and internationally. She held a PhD in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
Marcia was a driving force in the promotion of disability rights and the enhancement of opportunities for marginalized people. In 2014, Marcia was invested to the Order of Canada for her scholarship in the field of social justice and for her advancement of the rights of persons with disabilities.
She is survived by loving partner Ezra Zubrow, sisters Jane Underwood (David) of Oakville and Anne George of West Vancouver and nieces Kristen and Kathryn Underwood and Marcia and Mary George. She was a surrogate family member, friend, and mentor to many.
