Robert Glyn “Bob” Lewis

January 9, 2020
Robert Glyn (Bob) Lewis, age 97, passed away January 9, 2020 in Nelson, BC. Bob aspired to live to 100, however due to complications of a hip fracture he was unable to reach triple digits.
Bob was born on a homestead farm near Claresholm, Alberta in 1922 to his Norwegian mother Edna Soley and his Welsh father John Lewis. He was the second of their six children. He lived in Calgary, Claresholm and Pasadena, CA during his school years. In 1940 he attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton where he completed a degree in Chemical Engineering and started work at Alberta Nitrogen. In 1949 he married Elizabeth Clow and transferred to Cominco Ltd. Operations in Trail. For the next 35 years he worked at various positions including Warfield Fertilizer, Research and Development, and decommissioning the Heavy Water plant. Bob was a 51 year resident of Warfield, where his wife Elizabeth taught piano and they raised their daughters Maureen and Yvonne.
At age 6, he contracted Polio, which affected his throat, forever leaving him with a distinctive laugh. He was fond of travel, and together he and Elizabeth visited many countries. They also wintered in Hawai’i for many years. Bob loved Classical music and was an opera afficionado.
Bob is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 70 years, and his daughter Maureen Lewis (Jim). He is survived by five grandchildren: Yvonne’s daughters Rachel, Esther, Kate and Joy, and Maureen’s daughter Evangeline. Bob was blessed with two great grand-daughters. He is survived by his brother Stanley Lewis and sister Dorothy Norby, and his “third daughter” Jane Scodellaro. He was predeceased by his daughter Yvonne Lewis in 2017, and by his brother Jack, and sisters Joan and Jean.
There will be no service as per Bob’s request. Thompson Funeral Service is in care of his cremation. Thanks to the Assisted Living Staff of Mountain Lake Seniors Facility in Nelson for their care. Thanks also to Bob’s Case Manager nurses Laura Fuller and Chiera Markin for their guidance and compassionate care over the past few years.
