Burley: Robert Henry passed away at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital on September 9, 2010. He died suddenly without pain or worry…
Robert was born in Meadow Lake, SK on December 13, 1933. He was retired from Cominco since July 1992. Bob had been a miner/assayer in the HB Mine in Salmo for many years and then transferred to Cominco in Trail and was an audiologist and also drove heavy equipment, every little boy’s dream.
He wore many, many hats in his career days. Bob had been a bicycle courier, a farm hand, parts clerk in Reuben Berge Motors in Nelson, a butcher, an orchard worker in Kelowna to name a few things he did. Dad was a wise, loving and humorous man who had a passion for cooking, trading recipes, playing music and instruments of many descriptions. All he ever wanted to do was bring joy and comfort to people through laughter and music. Bob’s life as a husband of almost 50 years and father of two adoring daughters were among his proudest accomplishments.
The most outstanding feature of his life was his life-long career as a minister of Jehovah God. He was excited to be able to share his hopes and beliefs with all he met and was dedicated to this work by baptism, 62 yrs ago. His face glowed when he was able to tell others about his God, Jehovah and the bright positive future he so strongly believed in.
Bob slipped away to God’s memory suddenly at KBRH and wanted all to know that he was completely content with his life as it had been. He wouldn’t have changed a thing!!
Bob is survived by his daughters Regina (Bill) Leslie of Trail and Darcy Burley of Calgary, sister Dorothy (nee Burley) Hrytzak of Red Deer, AB, brother Marvin (Georgina) Burley of Weekes, SK, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Naomi (Wayne) Droboth, who was always considered to be the “adopted daughter from next door”; as well as many, many dear friends.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Joyce Josephine (Schotte) in May 2003, father Arnold Reginald Burley in July 1974, mother Stella Jean (Kinnee) Burley in April 1976, sister of 12 years, Margorie Louise in June 1953, and by his sidekick, Shelby, his faithful Yorkshire Terrier, who died in July 2010.
A memorial service in memory of this beautiful person is to be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, #3375, Laburnum Drive, in Trail, BC on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments are to follow the service. Bill Clark of Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” was entrusted with arrangements.
