October 12, 1930 - January 1, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandpa, and great grandpa William (Bill) Buss on January 1, 2022, at the age of 91, after a short battle with cancer.
Bill was born in Golden Bay, Manitoba on October 12, 1930, where he grew up on the family farm with his parents and six brothers. His friends called him Bill, but he was Willie to his family. He came to Trail in 1951, which is where he met the love of his life, Doreen (Davidson). He waited patiently while she completed her teacher training in Victoria and they were married in Trail in 1956.
Nothing was more important to Bill than family. He will be greatly missed by his children David (Lorie) and Cheryl (Keith), grandchildren Andrew (Lindsey), Michael (Randall) and Allison (Martin), great granddaughter Maeve, brothers Gordon and George and their families, numerous nieces, nephews, and in- laws, and many friends. Gramps cherished his grandchildren, as they cherished him, and he loved playing crib with the grandkids. Bill was predeceased by his wife Doreen, with whom he spent many happy days travelling, gardening, skiing, hanging out at Christina Lake, and walking everywhere. He was also predeceased by his brothers Len, Alfie, Roy and Herbie, and his parents Henry and Matilda Buss.
Bill was funny and wise, and he retained his sense of humour right to the end. He was also thoughtful and kind, and he liked to help people whenever he could. Bill was happy to give someone a ride to the airport, volunteer at the food bank, or help with ushering at the Trail United Church. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 26 years, and only stopped in 2017 because a hip replacement made it difficult for him to get in and out of the car and negotiate all those stairs.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Wilson (retired) of Columbia Family Medicine, and to Dr. Scotland, the Oncology and Emergency Departments, and 3rd Floor Medical at KBRH for their care and support. We would also like to thank the ladies from the Trail United Church for extending their fellowship to Bill these many years.
A family Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring or Summer. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Bill's name may be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation, 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
