In two cleverly written job postings for two Black Press positions, the Rossland News publisher wrote the following (Trail Daily Times, June 14 Employment Section):

“The Rossland News has an opening for a general news and sports reporter.  We are looking for someone with a passion for their community and the spirit and energy to tell our community’s story to our many readers.”

On the next page, the same publisher for the Rossland News advertised an opening for a Full Time Office/Sales position:  “First and foremost we are looking for someone who is community minded and loves being an active member in the community.”

So, if a prospective job seeker has a passion for his or her community of Trail, can he or she be considered and hired for a position at the Rossland News?  I guess we’ll have to stay tuned for that result.

In the meantime, however, I wouldn’t mind seeing similar provisos when advertising any position located in Trail.

It would be refreshing to demand that those who work in Trail have a passion for Trail. Please don’t all respond at once.
