As Trail’s first sparse snowflakes hit the frozen ground this week, the sports teams of J.L Crowe began preparing for their top performances.
The girls’ field hockey team captured the West Kootenay title against Nelson with a 1-0 win in the final, and headed to Vancouver Tuesday for the B.C. High-School championship.
Bolstered by former RSS Royals and led by coach Donna Hebert, with their previous successes, their future in provincials looks very promising.
For the Aquatics team, their trip to Kimberley for regionals left audiences astounded. They easily took first place with a marvelous 349 points. With this victory and the individual results, 13 students qualified for provincials which will be taking place in Richmond next week. Results like these bode well for the dedicated and skilled athletes.
In other news, the Senior Girls’ volleyball team had a great time bonding and competing in Kimberley for their last big tournament of the year. Although they did not come out with a win, they continuously grow stronger and the competition illustrated how they are really coming together as a team. They are set to playoff against Nelson on Nov. 15 for the AAA West Kootenay championships and a chance at provincials.
The Junior girls volleyball, “A-team” journeyed to Kelowna for a tournament and although they were unable to take a game, the competition was fierce and the games were very close and intense.
The experience helped them understand the level of play and be able to train for next year. All three of the teams competed in a play day consisting of eight games and were extremely satisfied with their results, coming out ahead in all games but one. In a few weeks’ time they will be off to Mount Sentinel for West Kootenay Championships, which will definitely be an entertaining watch.
The Grade 8 girls volleyball teams had an awesome play day last week and took virtually all of their games. As a three team powerhouse, they will be off to Mount Sentinel at the end of the month for the West Kootenay Championships as well. With a glorious season under their belts, the championship could very easily be theirs.
