Audia gets shot at title in first year

With an all-star nod already on her resume from her first season of collegiate hockey, Lindsay Audia is also getting a shot at a league championship.

The Trail native will join her Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Trojans squad for Game 1 of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) tonight when they take on the defending champion Mount Royal University Cougars in a best-of-five series.

The first three games of the series are scheduled for this weekend.

SAIT is coming into the series as a huge underdog. Mount Royal is undefeated in its last 13 meetings with SAIT and chalked up a league-best 21-1-2 record during the regular season. The Trojans were second in the league with a 12-8-4 record.

The Trojans advanced to the league final with a 3-1 series win over the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks.

It marked the first playoff series win for SAIT in three seasons.

Audia scored twice in the series clinching game, a 6-3 victory a week ago. That tied her with Tia Hanson for the team lead in playoff scoring with four goals and eight points in four games.

Audia’s playoff performance comes on the heels of a great freshman year with the Calgary school.

She was one of two members of the team to earn a spot on the ACAC All-Conference team.

Hanson, her linemate, was named to the first team while Audia was selected to the second team.

Audia, who is in her first year of the nutrition for healthy lifestyles program, was third in scoring in the ACAC with 13 goals and 26 points in 22 games.

Her totals included three game-winning goals for the Trojans.
